Q. Is it mandatory for the program to have an INCOSE-affiliated CSEP or ESEP, or is this optional?
A. There is no requirement to have a CSEP or ESEP employed by the university. We want a CSEP or ESEP who is in communication with the university and with INCOSE. The university may nominate this person, or we will work with the chapter and local SEPs to identify someone for this role.
Q. Would it be acceptable for a jury member of the AFIS ROBAFIS challenge, who is a CSEP or ESEP, to act as the representative for all participating universities?
A. Yes. A jury member who is a SEP may serve in this representative role.
Q. In Form 53, what is the expected minimum coverage level for the INCOSE Core Learning Objective descriptions? Are some objectives mandatory and others optional?
A. All learning objectives must be addressed through some form of course assessment. They do not all need to appear in course readings or presentations. A topic may have been taught in a prior course or be considered general student knowledge, as long as it is assessed in the course. This assessment can be as minimal as a single quiz question or a component of a project grade.
Q. What is the minimum required content for the syllabus to be submitted? Should it include learning objectives, contact hours, hands-on sessions, assessment methods, course schedule, or textbooks?
A. The course textbook is one of the most important elements we look for in the syllabus. Here is an example of an accepted syllabus: SYS 590 Summer 24 Syllabus. Assessment methods are captured in Form 53. If the course uses a group assignment or a large project covering many learning objectives, we may also request a scoring rubric, which may be included in the syllabus or provided as a separate document.
Q. Do fees vary depending on the number of student candidates?
A. No. The Academic Equivalency fees are as follows: (1) The university must pay the annual Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) fee ($5225) to be eligible for Academic Equivalency. This cost does not depend on the number of students. CAB membership gives all students access to the INCOSE SE Handbook and other downloadable resources. (2) Only students who wish to obtain certification must pay individual membership and certification application fees. These fees apply only to those students and are required for certification to be granted.
